SOCIAL SERVICES
IRISS (Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services) is a Scottish charity helping social work and social care to flourish through research, resources, and innovation partnerships. Their legacy Drupal site — not on the latest version — had accumulated errors and become increasingly unmaintainable. The brief was to migrate everything to WordPress and rebuild the front-end.
The brief
Over a few months at the start of 2026, I worked from low-fidelity prototypes and early design ideas rather than polished comps. Through several feedback loops with the client, the front-end took shape into something they were happy with — built entirely in Beaver Builder, as requested, with around ten custom modules to cover layouts and components the page builder could not handle out of the box.
Content migration was the harder half of the project. None of the available migration plugins or off-the-shelf solutions fit the data we had, so I wrote a custom WordPress plugin tailored to JSON exports from Drupal Views. Drupal carried a large set of specific fields, post types, and surrounding metadata that all had to be mapped and wrapped into a WordPress context — a rocky road, but we got there.
